Materials for Dental Restoration
One popular material that is used for dental restoration is the amalgam. It is a filling made out of mercury and silver alloy powder mixed together to become a hard solid metal. It hardens by itself at the temperature inside the mouth. Glass ionomers are also materials used for dental restoration. They are fluoride that has glass powder mixed with organic acid to form a solid and tooth colored restorative material. These kind of materials are self-hardening capable of releasing fluoride. There is another kind of ionomer that is being used as restorative dental material. They are the resin ionomers. The mixture is composed of fluoride with glass powder, sub micron glass filler, and acrylic resin. Comments Off
